Ventrilo Installation

·        Log onto ventrilo.com and download the windows client.  It is typically the first available link on the download page.

·        Install program.

·        Once program is installed, open the main window of Ventrilo by clicking your desktop icon.

·        Click the button next to the User Name box (has an “->” on it).  Click “New”. Type in any name you wish to use.  Phonetic is used to announce your entrance into Ventrilo.  If you type in
“Fast Cars”, the program will announce, “Fast Cars has joined the channel” when you enter.  Click okay and the window will close.

·        Click the button next to the Server box (has an “->” on it).  Click “New”.  Type “OTV Live” in the “Name” box.  Type 216.6.226.216  in the “Hostname or IP” box.  Type 3880 in the “Port” box.
Pass word can be gotten from the Guild Info Tab or from a member.  Click okay and the window will close.

·        Leave “Bindings” at none.

·        Click “Setup” on the right-side of the Ventrilo main window.  Make sure your setup is as follows:

1.        Enable outgoing voice communications (box must be checked).
2.        Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey (box must be checked).
3.        Use DirectInput to detect Hotkey (box must be Unchecked).
4.        Discard Hotkey (box must be Unchecked).
5.        Play Key Clicks (box must be checked).
6.        Both Use DirectSound boxes on the right-side must be Unchecked.

·        Click your mouse in the “Hotkey” box.  This key is what you will need to hold down when you talk in Ventrilo.  You should select a key not normally used in general typing such as then Insert,
Delete or End buttons on your keyboard.

·        Under “Output Device” you need to select your audio device.  If you don’t see this under the dropdown menu, you can select default.  You must select the same option under “Input Device”.
(Remember “Use DirectSound” must be unchecked above both of these options).

1.        For “Mixer”, you should select the same audio device option as above.
2.        For “Mux” it should give you either “Capture” or only one option.
3.        For “Line”, you should select your audio device, or “microphone” if available.
4.        Line Volume should be at the mid-way point.

·        Amplifiers - Outbound is what everyone else in Ventrilo hears and Inbound is what you will hear.  Whenever someone says you’re too loud, you will need to turn your Outbound lower.
Whenever the volume in Ventrilo seems too loud or too quiet, you will need to adjust your Inbound.

·        Click “OK” and the setup window will close.

·        Click “Connect” in the main window.

·        Once you have connected, click the “Chat…” button on the right side of the main window.  A new window opens that allows you to type to everyone in Ventrilo.  Make sure you have
“Enable TTS” checked at the bottom of this screen.  This feature allows you to hear whatever text is typed into the chat room over your speakers through “Microsoft Sam”.  This feature is to
allow you to hear any users that do not have a mic.
